The castle

Castel Capuano, second only to the Castel dell'Ovo for antiquity, it was founded in 1140 for the purpose of Royal residence by the will of Guglielmo il Malo, son of Roger the Norman, and so named for its proximity to Porta Capuana, the door whose road led to the city of Capua.
It will be destined to Justice palace from 1503 by the viceroy Don Pedro de Toledo who, within it, merged all the courts of justice that were in the city.

Structure

All 'inside the Castle it is possible to visit:

  • the Hall of the Court of Appeal, rich in frescoes;
  • the Sala dei Busti in marble of the most illustrious lawyers of the ancient Neapolitan forum;
  • the Chapel of the Sommaria;
  • the Formiello fountain.
