Easter in the red zone throughout Italy: here are the new rules

Mario Draghi

The new government decree introduces stricter rules until Easter and Easter Monday: here are what they are.

The government has launched a new decree that replaces the DPCM so far in force and which concerns the even stricter restriction measures that will go into effect from 15 March 2021 until 6 April, and which also provide for the introduction of the red zone for the whole of Italy during the Easter and Easter Monday holidays.

Only Sardinia will remain in the white zone.

The decree approved by the Council of Ministers introduces more rigid measures in the choice of colors to be assigned to the Regions and specifies again the rules concerning travel and visits to friends and relatives.

Italy in the red zone for Easter: the movements allowed

In the days from 3 to 5 April the whole town will be in the red zone and the limitations normally provided for the areas in red will be valid.

The main difference is the possibility to move within one's own region to visit relatives and friends in a private home once a day.

Visits to friends and relatives between March and April

On non-Easter days, from March 15th to April 2nd and April 6th, in Orange regions it is foreseen to move, only within one's own municipality, to a single private residence, always once a day and in a maximum of two people. To these, we can add children under the age of 14 on whom parental responsibility is exercised and disabled or non self-sufficient people living together. Obviously, the curfew must be respected, which starts at 22.00 and lasts until 5 in the morning.

instead, in the red areas these provisions do not apply since only travel is allowed in cases of necessity, health and work. The Easter days from 3 to 5 April are an exception, as mentioned, when you can move to the regional area for visits.

The new rules on the passage of color

The new decree provides for the automatic passage of a Region in an area of a different color when the RT index changes, as previously provided, but the limits that trigger the passage change. Indeed, Regions with a number of positives greater than 250 per 100000 inhabitants will immediately go into the red zone.

Furthermore, from March 15th there will be no more yellow zones because the rules of the orange zone will also be applied to those who are currently in yellow.

Closed bars and restaurants

From 15 March, therefore, the bars and restaurants will remain closed and will be only take-away and home delivery are allowed. From 5.00 to 18.00 the takeaway sale is without restrictions, while from 18.00 to 22.00 it is only allowed to restaurants.

Shops open in the orange area

In the regions in the red zone, shops will remain closed, excluding those selling basic necessities, pharmacies and supermarkets. In orange zone will remain open.
