Feast of Piedigrotta 2014 in Naples, narrated walk with Insolitaguida

The Piedigrotta Festival returns to Naples, with a walk narrated between music and folk dances between Mergellina and Piedigrotta

In a few days the historian will come back to relive in Naples Piedigrotta Festival, celebrated since the first century BC with pagan cults in honor of the god Priapus and then became a religious festival in honor of the Virgin Mary, in the third century AD But it is only in 1487 that the first real Piedigrotta Festival, the year in which the chronicler Leostello mentions a party of "Santa Maria della Grotta" e "All who flocked there in the night between 7 and 8 September".

Since then, between 7 and 8 September, the city of Naples has continued to celebrate the Piedigrotta Festival with parades of allegorical floats, with music and folk dances. An initiative that unfortunately, in recent years, has gradually declined due to the reduction in funding to individuals and associations that organized the party.

But this year, thanks to the contribution of the cultural association Insolitaguida, you can make a real dive into the past of our city, participating in the walk told The Piedigrotta Festival, to be held Sunday 7 September 2014.

The initiative will consist of a walking path that will take place from Mergellina to Piedigrotta, during which curiosities and stories related to the Festival will be told, collected among various books and documents but above all thanks to the many testimonies of those who experienced this festival firsthand: from what they ate to how the participants dressed and much more . There will be nice anecdotes such as the practice of "maritaggio" and clothes made of frizzy paper with intermittent lights.

The narration will be interspersed with musical interventions by the maestro Mario Scala that will make us relive the best of the tradition of the Neapolitan music festival with songs like Saint Lucia Luntana e I love you so much, which inaugurated the musical Piedigrotta. Tarantella and macchiette will also be performed with the help of traditional instruments, such as putipù, triccheballacche and scucciamienti, and also the participants, will be able to go to the event "armed" with such instruments to roar fiercely to the rhythm of music.
