The strike will be pilots and flight attendants of RyanAir, EasyJet and Volotea for 4 hours and another black day is expected for travelers, a day that adds to those full of inconveniences of this period in which dozens of flights are canceled every day.
The protest also involves the subsidiaries of low cost Ryanair, that is Malta Air e crewlink. The strike was called by the unions Filt Cgil and Uiltrasporti and the workers of the airport handling service companies also join.
The strike times and guaranteed bands
The strike will be there from 14.00 to 18.00 on 17 July. In any case, they will be guaranteed flights in the time slots from 7.00 to 10.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00.
The reasons for the strike
Pilots and flight attendants go on strike to ask better working conditions and wages, a request that has been made for some time now, but that it did not lead to any beneficial answer or solution. For this reason, a new strike was called.
Although there was also a meeting with the Ministry of Infrastructure, the situation has not changed.
The protest of travelers: compensation can be requested
This is not the first strike this summer and many more are expected until staff requests are met. Of course these protests are causing many difficulties for those who have to leave during the summer and the Codacons has communicated that it will be possible to ask for compensation to airlines in case of flight cancellation.
Travelers can take action against the companies and ask up to 5 thousand euros in damages for the loss of vacation days or for the inability to reach the holiday resort. Codacons has also proposed offering legal assistance to travelers.
Furthermore, Massimiliano Dona, President of the National Consumers Union specified that travelers are entitled to both reimbursement or re-routing and financial compensation, as well as assistance, having not been informed of the cancellation of the flight with at least 2 weeks notice.
