The State Archive of Naples opens its doors to citizens in November 2014

The Neapolitan State Archives will give citizens interesting free guided tours, concerts and will show the most prestigious documentation in the history of Naples

Naples wants to "talk" and tell its citizens about its history. And all this will finally be possible the 9 and the 23 November 2014 with the initiative "Sunday in the archive" at the State Archives of Naples.

The Neapolitans will have the opportunity to participate in a series of Free guided tours in the monumental complex of the former Benedictine monastery of Santi Severino e Sossio, home of the archive for about 180 years and located in the heart of the city, in Spaccanapoli.

You can admire the spaces of the first floor such as, the Tasso hall, the cloister of Marble, the hall Catasti, the Filangieri room and the cloister of the Platano.

To make the two occasions even more suggestive and indelible, the guided itineraries will be embellished with a concert organized in the Filangieri hall by famous musicians and in collaboration with the association Napolinova.

But the undisputed protagonist of the two Sundays of November will undoubtedly be the State Archives, the prestigious deposit comprising the most precious and important documents of Naples and the territory.

Room of the Catasto

Citizens will be able to "touch" the written testimony of the splendor and of the political-administrative power of the metropolis in the past, primarily as the European capital of the South and Sicily, then as the provincial capital and as the seat of important constitutions and ministries.

The Neapolitan State Archive, for those who do not know it, therefore represents an invaluable asset: with more 50.000 meters of casellari containing all the historical city, political and administrative memory with documents dating back to the Grand Court of Auditors of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and to the State Council.
