The Vesuvius of Andy Warhol will leave Naples forever

Vesuvius by Andy Warhol up for auction

One of the works by Andy Warhol dedicated to Naples, among the many inspired by Vesuvius, will leave the city forever.

The next 15 October 2015, "Vesuvius", one of Andy Warhol's masterpieces, will be auctioned by Ernesto Esposito, famous designer of Neapolitan shoes, leaving forever the Neapolitan capital. But it is not the Vesuvius conserved in the Museum of Capodimonte, still visited today, but of a canvas owned by a private Neapolitan.

The auction, which will be held at Sotheby's in London, for other 60 important works will also be beaten for an initial quotation of over 10 million, of which three only for Warhol's masterpiece.

The prestigious canvas dedicated to Naples, exhibited for the last time at PAN, represents an explosion of colors in pop style made in 1985 by the great artist on the occasion of the exhibition "Vesuvius by Warhol" for the Museum of Capodimonte.

A masterpiece this, which has consecrated the city of Naples in the world and a pride for all its citizens. "Vesuvius" is also synonymous with the friendship between Andy Warhol and the Neapolitan gallery owner Lucio Amelio, for whom the great artist already created "Fate Presto" for the exhibition - collection "Terrae Motus".

Una big loss therefore, that surely will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of all the citizens of Naples, proud of a city loved and appreciated by many foreign artists and especially by a genius like Andy Warhol.
