A Napoli, precisely in the district of San Giovanni a Teduccio, the first fair energy community for clean energy supply was born.

This was great news also covered by the prestigious New York Times that in his pages he wanted to show this innovative reality that is unprecedented in our country and indicated it as one more reason to visit Naples. It is not the first time that our city is praised by the New York Times.

The fact that it is located in one of the most neighborhoods difficult of Naples is just another valuable reason because, in a reality in which poverty, illegality, cultural deprivation and marginalization are widespread, this initiative can act as a flywheel for redemption and rebirth.

Hundreds of solar panels mounted

The project was born from the collaboration between Legambiente e Foundation with the South, with the participation of Family of Mary foundation who have chosen San Giovanni a Teduccio to implement it, giving the young people of the neighborhood the opportunity to engage in an important, modern, innovative initiative that gives them the opportunity to redeem themselves and the neighborhood.

They were 166 solar panels were installed on the roofs of the buildings to give life to the first fair energy community in all of Italy, a project that it will provide clean and free electricity to families in the neighborhood.

Despite the bureaucratic difficulties that slowed down the project, the milestone has been reached. In fact, the panels were already mounted in February last year, but not only the bureaucracy, even the wave of Covid and the landscape constraints, had slowed down the work.

San Giovanni a Teduccio: the great redemption of young people

The president of the Foundation, Anna Riccardi, said she chose this neighborhood in the eastern suburbs because it is a difficult territory and the participation of the Foundation of Mary, a lay body, has given the possibility of achieving this educational and reintegration project just actually of this type.

In this way it offers the possibility of participate in cultural tours and various other activities. In addition, there was the opportunity to disseminate solar energy.

Free energy reaches dozens of families

Clean and free energy comes to 40 families of the neighborhood. L'excess energy is inserted into the grid and sold to the operator, therefore, earnings are obtained which are then distributed again to families.

In this way there is a savings in bills ranging between 150 and 200 euros. An important saving in view of the current significant increases in electricity prices.

A demonstration of the fact that the ecological transition can also start from the bottom, especially now that there will be a lot of funds from the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan).
