Masterpieces by Leonardo, Raffaello and Caravaggio exhibited for the first time in San Domenico Maggiore for the event “An impossible exhibition”.

The marvelous monumental complex of San Domenico Maggiore host from December 3 until April 21 2014 until 31 May 2014 for May of the Monuments; from the 1 June to the 31 August for the Forum of Cultures, the evocative exposition An impossible exhibition.

For the first time in the history of art there will be a real prodigy: 117 paintings and frescos by the three great world-famous masters Leonardo, Raffaello and Caravaggio will be exhibited in a single environment, in 1: 1 scale and very high resolution. To make this suggestive and enchanting "impossible exhibition" possible, the technology and potential of "Digital reproducibility" which demonstrates how the humanistic culture can make use of the use of new digital technologies, benefiting above all in terms of dissemination.

Works on display for an impossible exhibition at San Domenico Maggiore in Naples

In fact, although these are copies and not the originals, until April it will be possible to go to the convent of San Domenico Maggiore and admire, in chronological order, the most famous masterpieces of art history, reproduced on backlit panels in real size, with an incredibly realistic effect that amplifies the perception of a real painting.

The project Impossible Exhibitions - The work of art in the age of its digital reproducibility, was conceived and directed by Renato Parancandolo, with the scientific direction of Ferdinando Bologna, has been touring Italy for some years and also the whole world, from Chicago to Malta. The aim of the initiative is to make the artistic masterpieces usable by anyone, even by those who, for economic or logistical reasons, cannot admire the originals scattered all over the world. So, why not rely on reproductions and, on the contrary, not learn how to protect them, enhance them and perfect them?

With these premises born An impossible exhibition, which allows all visitors to witness the impossible. To admire, in the same day, works such as La Gioconda andLast Supper of Leonardo, the Madonna of Foligno of Raphael e The bari of Caravaggio.

The event is organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, is sponsored by the Forum of Cultures and is organized by Rai, the Municipality of Naples, Polo Pietrasanta with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Education and the Academy of Fine Arts.

The event will be joined by some events:

  • Friday December 6 there will be a tribute to Nino Rotwith Lalla Esposito and Mimmo Napolitano
  • Sunday December 8 tableaux vivants  di Caravaggio, with "The conversion of a horse" by Ludovica Rambelli
