A huge gathering of 200 Pulcinella from Italy and the Czech Republic who will perform in parades and shows inspired by the famous Neapolitan mask
The one of tomorrow 11 May 2014 It will be a great day for the city of Acerra, the Campania town that in 1600 gave birth to the famous Pulcinella, the Neapolitan mask par excellence of the commedia dell'arte.
In fact it will be held a maxi international meeting of 200 Pulcinella from all over the world, that they will parade through the streets of the ancient center of Acerra to celebrate the most famous Italian mask in the world, which has become a symbol of Naples.
I 200 Pulcinella they will be the components of 12 puppet companies from all over Italy and the Czech Republic, or rather the "ambassadors" of the Neapolitan mask in the world, in an event that promises to be unique for its suggestions and quantity of artists present. The event was commissioned by the Municipality of Acerra with the support of the Campania Region.
Not everyone knows, perhaps, the story of Puccio d'Aniello, a peasant from Acerra who, in the 600th century, joined a company of wanderers passing through his country as a jester. The face darkened by the country sun and the long nose gave life to the unmistakable appearance of the character of Pulcinella, a figure that has inspired generations of actors and playwrights over the centuries. Artists like Eduardo De Filippo, Massimo Ranieri, Massimo Troisi, Pino Daniele, Peppe Barra, have often given rise to theatrical and musical situations inspired by his mask.
The Regional Councilor for Tourism and Cultural Heritage, Pasquale SommeseSaid:
"Organizing events like this means doing culture. It means making the Italian and foreign tourist know the territory, but also to our children, who are losing contact with their roots ever faster. It means re-evaluating history, traditions and the arts in their noblest expressions. And revive Pulcinella, which has always been one universal symbol of Neapolitanism, of which he embodies the exuberance, the ironic and generous spirit, the philosophy disenchanted. I also believe that creating events like this is important to make a different tourism, which can attract a quality traveler, always looking for picturesque events and locations, and which is in line with the idea strongly desired by the Region of proposing a tourist offer. that enhances the cultural, museum and architectural heritage, as well as the landscape of our wonderful municipalities "
The festival dedicated to Pulcinella is scheduled for the days of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May 2014 with events that will be held mainly, within the Baronial Castle, where it will also be possible to visit the Pulcinella Museum, folklore and peasant civilization, founded in 1992, with twelve exhibition rooms all dedicated to Pulcinella and to the traditional mask.

- The Neapolitans Irene Vigneri and Selvaggia Filippini with the show Pulcinella and Partenope, on the mystery origins of the City of Naples.
- To conclude the day the Compagnia degli Sbuffi, of Castellammare di Stabia with the traveling show Tozzabancone & Fittifitti, a journey through the myths of Pulcinella starting from Tiepolo, to get to the Pulcinella's Travels on the Moon
