Weather alert in Naples and Campania for Friday, March 13th
After a few days characterized by mild temperatures and mostly clear skies, the weather in Campania changes rapidly. Regional Civil Protection has in fact issued ayellow level weather alert valid from midnight and up to Friday, March 13, 15th.
According to forecasts, the worsening will be accompanied by widespread rain and thunderstorms, with possible intense phenomena especially in the coastal areas of the region.
The areas most affected by the bad weather
The alert specifically concerns two areas of the Campania region:
- 1 zone: Naples, the Gulf Islands, the Vesuvian area, and the Campanian Plain
- 3 zone: Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, Sarno Mountains, and Picentini Mountains
In these areas are expected sudden storms, which could be accompanied by gusts of wind, lightning and local hailstorms.
Possible risks on the territory
In addition to the rainfall, the Civil Protection reports the possibility of phenomena of hydrogeological instability linked to heavy rain.
Among the critical issues that could arise are:
- flooding of roads and underpasses
- rising water levels
- falling rocks or small landslides in the most fragile areas
These are situations that can occur especially in areas already exposed to hydrogeological risk or where the ground is more unstable.
Recommendations from the Civil Protection
La Civil Protection of the Campania Region invited the interested Municipalities to activate the Municipal Operations Centers, tools used to coordinate emergency interventions on the territory.
Local authorities have also been asked to take all necessary measures to prevent or reduce possible inconveniences caused by bad weather, carefully monitoring the evolution of weather conditions.
Citizens are advised to pay attention when travelling during the hours affected by the alert, especially in areas where rain and wind could be more intense.
