The Campania Region Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow weather alert, valid from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM today, Monday, August 3, throughout the region. The warning, based on assessments by the Functional Center, predicts sudden showers and thunderstorms , some of which may be intense at local scale, with possible hail, strong winds, and lightning. Here's what you need to know.

Yellow alert in effect from 13pm to 21pm across Campania.

The weather alert has been issued in light of the current weather scenarios and their evolution, as communicated by the Campania Region Civil Protection Department . It is valid from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM today, Monday, August 3 , and covers the entire region. The weather situation is characterized by instability: thunderstorms could evolve rapidly but also be particularly intense. The alert was prepared by the Regional Civil Protection Functional Center and distributed to municipalities by the Unified Operations Room, SORU , which remains active to coordinate monitoring and response activities. This is the latest alert this summer, following those issued in recent weeks for similar phenomena: in June, another yellow alert was issued with thunderstorms starting at 1:00 PM, as reported in our update on the yellow weather alert in Campania on June 23. The authorities recommend paying attention to the bulletins and following the instructions issued throughout the day.

Sudden thunderstorms, hail and gusts of wind

The forecasted phenomena are typical of the summer period but can be dangerous due to their rapidity: sudden showers and thunderstorms , even intense on a local scale, capable of quickly dumping large quantities of rain on small areas. In addition to rain, the warning warns of the possibility of hail , gusts of wind, and lightning, which could cause damage to roofs and exposed structures. This is why the Civil Protection Department recommends that the competent authorities check the proper condition of public greenery and structures exposed to atmospheric stress, so as to reduce the risk of falling branches, trees, or loose objects. Those on the street are advised to pay attention to scaffolding, outdoor seating, and anything that could be moved by the wind. The forecast for the day, as also reported in our weather update for Naples with a yellow alert and afternoon thunderstorms , confirms a trend characterized by alternating clearings and showers during the hottest hours.

Hydrogeological risk, flooding and landslides

The warning issued by the Operational Center also highlights a hydrogeological risk with land-impact phenomena. Among the scenarios indicated are flooding , overflowing, exceeding water levels of watercourses, water flow onto roads, and rising river and stream levels. Rockfall and landslides are possible, especially in areas where the soil is more fragile or already stressed by recent rainfall. The Civil Protection Department recommends that the competent authorities implement all structural and non-structural measures to prevent, mitigate, and counteract the forecasted phenomena, in accordance with their respective municipal civil protection plans. Residents should follow the recommended guidelines in these cases: avoid parking or driving near watercourses, underpasses, and low-lying areas, secure objects that can be moved by the wind, and limit travel during peak periods of the events. Municipalities remain in contact with the Unified Operations Room to constantly monitor the situation.
