Antony and Cleopatra It is one of the most famous historical tragedies of the theatrical production of William Shakespeare, appeared on stage in the 1607 and published in five acts in the 1623. The drama will be revisited for the sixth edition of the Naples Theater Festival from the director Luca de Fusco and the world premiere will go on stage 9 and 10 June at the Mercadante Theater.

The original tragedy focuses on some historical and political events of the Roman Empire, focusing on passionate relationship between Marco Antonio and Cleopatra, queen of Egypt. The last battles between Marcus Anthony and the future emperor of Rome follow Ottaviano, up to the suicide of Antonio and Cleopatra who die in each other's arms, in a scene attributable to another famous tragedy: Romeo e Giulietta.

Luca de Fusco Naples Theater Festival

Antony and Cleopatra it is the tragedy of passion, of lust, of instinctive impulses that nullify human rationality, generating inner chaos that lead to tragic consequences. The two characters are not tragic heroes but full of ambiguity, whose final death does not convey compassion but pride, cunning and lack of scruples prevail in them.

The tragedy has been reread and revisited by the Festival's director and artistic director Luca de Fusco who transformed it into a scenic writing of great visual and emotional impact, where the relationship between word and music prevails. Composer of the pieces that act as a dramaturgical carrier is Ran Bathroom, Israeli musician of the Vertigo Dance Company, the dance company that performs for the second consecutive year at the festival with the show Vertigo 20.

- interpreters of Antonio and Cleopatra are Luca Lazzareschi, in the role of Antonio and Gaia Aprea in that of the Queen of Egypt.
