At the Galleries of Italy – Museum of Intesa Sanpaolo from 3 December 2022 to 19 March 2023 the beautiful exhibition entitled will take place Artemisia Gentileschi in Naples. The exhibition will be dedicated to the long period in which the painter stayed in the Neapolitan city, i.e. from 1630 to 1654, interrupted only by a trip to London between 1638 and 1640.

Thanks to the collaboration with the National Gallery of London, the Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte, the State Archives of Naples and the University of Naples l'Orientale, you will be able to admire a truly exceptional monographic exhibition. The works come from both public and private, Italian and international collections.

The life of Artemisia Gentileschi in Naples

Artemisia Gentileschi arrives in Naples in 1630 fascinated by the Neapolitan atmosphere and hopeful of new job opportunities. Naples was therefore the place where he remained for the rest of his life and where he created truly wonderful works of art.

In fact, he painted three canvases for a church, the Cathedral of Pozzuoli in the Rione Terra, it is about San Gennaro in the amphitheater of Pozzuoli, the Adoration of the Magi and Saints Proculus and Nicaea. Among other works also the Birth of St. John the Baptist at the Prado and Corisca and many others.

The exhibition in Naples will highlight some of the aspects of the great artist, such as the depiction of female heroines, including Judith and Cleopatra.
