Observations at the telescope, Researchers' Night at the Capodimonte Observatory

Extraordinary news from the Agerola Astronomical Observatory: a new star has been discovered in the Andromeda Galaxy!

The Astronomical Observatory of Agerola makes an important and interesting scientific discovery, namely that of a new star in the Andromeda galaxy.

The discovery was made on 21 October 2020 by the Agerola group with a 0.5m telescope and was later confirmed by other research groups in the world. It's about a Stella nova, or a huge nuclear explosion caused by the accumulation of hydrogen on the surface of a small star, a white dwarf, and this means that the star is much more light than usual.

The discovery of the Agerola Observatory

The discovery of the new star in the Andromeda Galaxy was achieved by the working group composed of Antonio Catapano, Ernesto Guido, Alfonso Noschese, Francesco Coccia, Luca D'Avino and Luca Izzo and was called AT2020xyv.

To make everyone participate was the mayor of Agerola, Luca Mascolo, who with a post published on his facebook page gave news of this beautiful novelty and paid homage to the Salvatore Di Giacomo Astronomical Observatory, opened only 4 years ago, for the beautiful result achieved in the scientific field.
