Bacoli, dog beach access confirmed for summer 2026: the municipal ordinance

A breath of fresh air for dog owners spending the summer in the Phlegraean Fields. The Municipality of bacoli, led by the mayor Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, has also confirmed the ordinance requiring all local beach establishments to allow dogs on the beach for the 2026 bathing season. This decision overturns the logic of many private beach establishments, where until recently, four-legged friends were prohibited without appeal.

The ordinance, signed for the first time in July 2024 and reconfirmed for the following seasons, establishes precise rules: dogs must be kept on a leash and with a muzzle, respecting other beachgoers and the normal rules of civil coexistence. The measure applies to all beaches in the municipality, including those under private concession, without exception.

“The sea belongs to everyone”

"The sea belongs to everyone. I have signed the new ordinance requiring all beach resorts and beach clubs in Bacoli to allow dogs on the beach. They must be leashed and muzzled. This will put an end to the bad habit of some private individuals prohibiting them," the mayor declared when signing the order. These words have been widely echoed by residents and tourists who frequent the Phlegraean beaches, from Capo Miseno to Miliscola, including the Baia coastline.

The municipal administration's decision, however, is not limited to dog access. The ordinance also provides: the obligation for every establishment to equip itself with a defibrillator, with personnel trained to use it in an emergency. This aspect the mayor called crucial: "We need to invest in safety to save lives."

Cooler bags and food: Stop unjustified bans

Another qualifying point of the provision concerns the right of bathers to access the beaches with food, drinks and cool bagsThis is no small clarification, given that in the past, some establishments had imposed arbitrary bans, forcing customers to consume only products sold within the beach. "I reiterated that it is absolutely forbidden to deny access to the beach to people with food, drinks, and coolers," explained Della Ragione, thanking Councilor Teresa Scotto di Luzio for her work in drafting the act.

24-hour checks on public beaches

Important news also on the surveillance front: the Municipality has activated a 24-hour control service of free beaches of the territory. The goal is twofold: on the one hand, to prevent abuse and unauthorized occupation, on the other, to ensure that fun does not lead to behavior that could disturb or harm the community and bathers.

Bacoli, an animal-friendly city

The Municipality of Bacoli's focus on animal welfare is nothing new. For years, the administration has promoted animal protection policies, with a municipal regulation that imposes severe penalties for mistreatment and campaigns to encourage adoptions from the local shelter. "We used to house about forty dogs in our shelter, now it's half that number. In a few months, we'll launch another campaign to get them adopted as well. It's an act of absolute civility," said the mayor, who has a personal connection to the cause: he too has a dog named Trilly, whom he calls "the family's best friend."

The beaches of Bacoli, and more generally of the Phlegraean Fields, are among the most popular in the Naples metropolitan area. The ability to bring your dog along represents a significant added value for families who consider their pets a fully-fledged member of the family. This decision, two years after the first ordinance, continues to pave the way for other Italian coastal resorts, promoting an increasingly harmonious coexistence between humans and animals in places of leisure and relaxation.
