Brand Napoli in Piazza Municipio, where the author is located and what remains
Starting from 21 June 2024, Piazza Municipio di Napoli has become home to a new one art installation. Designed byarchitect Marco Tatafiore and financed by Ministry of Tourism, it is a permanent work that features the word “Naples” in large three-dimensional letters. The structure will not only decorate the urban space, but also aims to become a cultural and tourist reference point, reflecting the energy and identity of a city increasingly open to the world.
The work and its author
The work, called “Brand Naples”, consists of a series of 1.7 meter high letters that form the word “Napoli”. Situated on a base that serves as a bench, the installation is made of robust materials to withstand atmospheric agents and heavy foot traffic.
THEarchitect Marco Tatafiore is the creator of the project, developed in response to a call from City of Naples. The design incorporates elements that recall Neapolitan history and culture, with the back of the letters displaying symbolic images such as the Team Building, Vesuvio, San Gennaro painted by Jorit, Baba, the metro station Toledo, Long-Tailed Manakin, Pulcinella, the view on gulf, sea, Maradona, Palazzo Donn'Anna and the sea of Posillipo. All this makes the work a true visual manifesto of the city.
Where it is
The installation “Brand Naples” is positioned in the final part of Piazza Municipio, a strategic area of Napoli. Located between via Acton and away Christopher Columbus, the work looks directly towards the Maritime Station, arrival point of numerous cruises. A location is not only easily accessible for both residents and visitors, but also offers spectacular views with the Maschio Angioino, Castel Sant'Elmo and the sea as backgrounds. The choice of location was influenced by the need to place the installation in a highly visible and symbolic context.
The official inauguration
The inauguration was held on 21 June 2024, in the presence ofTourism councilor and Production Activities, Teresa Armato, who expressed great satisfaction with the effective response to the tender. He observed how many tourists approached to take photos, highlighting the success of the initiative. Armed explained that the choice of location is due to the beauty of the square and its visibility for tourists, especially for cruise passengers arriving from port, but also for those who come fromairport and from Station.
The square offers a view on Castel Sant'Elmo, Maschio Angioino and other historic buildings, making it an emblematic place of Napoli. He thanked thearchitect Tatafiore and the creative team for their work, hoping that the installation will become a further attractor for a city already full of tourists, bringing it ever closer to the great European capitals.
How long will he stay? It will be permanent
The installation “Brand Naples” is conceived as a permanent element of the urban landscape of Napoli. There is no scheduled removal date, as the aim is for the work to become a lasting symbol of the city, increasing its notoriety and offering citizens and tourists an iconic landmark. Furthermore, the work has been insured against damage, demonstrating its long-term value to the community and to the image of Napoli globally. With this installation, Napoli adds another significant attraction to its rich cultural and artistic heritage.
