Discovering the places in Naples from Elena Ferrante's “The Genial Friend”

The path created by NarteA is an opportunity to explore neighborhoods, districts, monuments and places of the city of Naples, to be observed and rediscovered with the eyes of the protagonists of the novel.

The ideal starting point is the "District of degradation", never mentioned in the book but where the lives of the two little girls meet and mingle, then become young girls and finally women, in a confusion of closeness and distance, rooting and uprooting, high and low. Instead, the real starting point will be Montesanto, where presumably the protagonists arrive with the metro, when for the first time they leave the neighborhood with their friends. We will continue through the Pignasecca, via Toledo e via Chiaia, the street of the rich and luxurious shops, up to the height of Chiaia bridge, which connects the area of San Carlo alle Mortelle with the hill of Pizzofalcone.

The subsequent stages are Cellammare palace e piazza dei Martiri, where in the story is the large shoe store of Solara. The path ends on via Caracciolo, the splendid road overlooking the sea.
