Campi Flegrei, the Region asks for a stop to loans and contributions

Article contents

The president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, formally asked the Government to intervene with extraordinary economic measures to support families and businesses in the area Campi Flegrei, hit by the phenomenon of bradyseism. In a letter sent to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Civil Protection, De Luca asked to suspend mortgage installments e social security contributions for local businesses. A request that aims to concretely address the growing difficulties experienced by citizens and entrepreneurs in the area.

The Region requests the suspension of loans for the Campi Flegrei

The request arises from the awareness of a increasingly critical economic situation in the areas affected by bradyseism. The continuous tremors and the fear of a worsening have caused damage to homes, interruptions to production activities and a climate of strong uncertainty.

According to De Luca, it is urgent that the national government ease the burden of financial obligations, starting with mortgage payments that families and businesses can no longer afford. The temporary suspension would be a way to give breathing space to the local economy and restore a prospect of stability to citizens.

Stop social security contributions to save local businesses

In addition to the mortgages, De Luca also asked for the suspension of social security contributions at the expense of companies operating in the municipalities affected by the volcanic phenomenon. The objective is avoid closures, layoffs and a collapse of the local productive fabric.

Many businesses, especially in tourism and catering, are already recording a drastic drop in attendance and revenues. Businesses struggle to sustain fixed costs and, without structural intervention, risk not surviving.

The measures requested by the Campania Region

Among the hypothesized solutions are:

  • Temporary suspension of mortgage payments for homes and business premises
  • Stop social security charges and contributions for businesses
  • Possible compensations for indirect damages linked to the decline in related industries
  • Special measures for tourism and local trade

To implement these measures, a national provision is needed. The Region has asked the Government to urgently assess the state of economic emergency for the Phlegraean Fields.

Now it's up to the Government to decide how to intervene

The ball is now in the Executive's court. De Luca underlined how the lack of rapid responses could worsen the social and economic crisis of an already fragile area. Families and entrepreneurs are waiting for concrete signals, not only in terms of security, but also in terms of economic and fiscal protections.

The letter is a first institutional step. Now it remains to be seen if and how the Government will accept the request, translating it into concrete actions in favor of the territory.
