New Year's Eve 2025 in Naples. Bans on bottles, spray cans, and fireworks in central areas.
In view of the main events planned for the New Year's Eve 2025, the Municipality of Naples has issued atrade union ordinance which introduces a series of temporary bans Aimed at protecting public order and collective safety, the measures affect the city's busiest areas, traditionally home to concerts, DJ sets, and street events to usher in the new year.
The provision will be in force from 18:00 PM on December 31, 2025 and will remain valid until the needs cease on January 1, 2026, in conjunction with the holding of official events.
The areas affected by the ordinance
The restrictions affect some of the areas most prominent for New Year's Eve celebrations, chosen for their high attendance and the presence of outdoor musical events and performances. The goal is to prevent risky situations related to the misuse of potentially dangerous objects.
The areas involved are:
- Piazza del Plebiscito
- Piazza Municipio
- Lungomare Caracciolo, including immediately adjacent areas
Ban on bottles, cans and rigid containers
A central part of the ordinance concerns the sale and consumption of beveragesFor the duration of the measure, the sale of beverages in containers that could pose a risk to public safety will not be permitted, a measure already adopted in the past during major city events.
In the affected areas:
- the sale and consumption of drinks is prohibited glass bottles;
- are not allowed tin cans, containers in rigid plastic, tetra pack or similar materials;
- administration will be permitted exclusively in light plastic or paper cups.
Stop pepper sprays and nebulizing devices
The ordinance also introduces the ban on the sale and possession of sprays or nebulizing devices containing oleoresin capsicum, commonly known as pepper sprays.
The measure was adopted to prevent potential panic attacks or improper use in particularly crowded environments, where even a single action could have significant consequences for the safety of those present.
Unauthorized firecrackers and fireworks are prohibited.
The line of maximum attention has also been confirmed on the front of pyrotechnicsIn the areas indicated by the ordinance, the following will be prohibited:
- to introduce, detain and explode firecrackers, bangs, rockets and fireworks;
- use devices containing detonating or explosive mixtures of any kind.
The ban does not apply to the official fireworks display, which remains the only authorized event organized in compliance with safety regulations.
Controls and sanctions
Compliance with the ordinance will be ensured by Municipal police and by other forces responsible for territorial control. Violations, unless they constitute more serious crimes, entail administrative fines ranging from 25 to 500 euros, as required by current legislation.
