Catch the Moon 2025: the animated film festival in Naples

The world of animation returns to thrill Naples with the third edition of Catch the Moon, the international festival dedicated to the animated films for children and teenagers. A unique event that combines art and education, involving the schools of the province of Naples in a journey of image education and discovery of animated language.

A journey into animated cinema

From January 2025, thirteen schools hosted 48 educational meetings and six video-animation workshops, led by industry experts such as Ahmed Ben Nessib, Virginia Ambrosini, Veronica Martinadonna and Omar Cheikh. A project that is not limited to simply watching films, but offers young viewers tools for understand, analyze and create animated short films.

Among the 28 shorts selected between over 1200 applications from 96 countries, stories of inclusion, friendship and personal growth emerge. From the alchemist's apprentice who discovers the magic of knowledge, to the little girl who overcomes her fear of the sea through an enlightening dream, each story is an emotional and visual journey.

The student jury and the screenings

A distinctive aspect of Catch the Moon it's his special jury: almost a thousand students are called to evaluate the short films in competition. The screenings are held at two important cinemas in the area:

• Cinema Pierrot by Ponticelli
• Cinema Rome of Portici

After weeks of screenings and debates, the festival will culminate in the Award ceremony on March 28, 2025 at the Pierrot Cinema, followed by a final event scheduled for May.

The goal is to educate and inspire young people

Organized by the association Picture and Word Game in collaboration with Art33 and Cineteca Milano, Catch the Moon fits into the National Plan Cinema and Images for Schools, promoted by Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education and Merit. An initiative that confirms the importance of animated cinema as an educational and creative tool.
