From August 26 to 28, 2026, the Certosa di San Martino in Naples will expand its offerings with free guided tours and special openings of some sections. This initiative, promoted by the Vomero National Museums , will accompany visitors during the days when Castel Sant'Elmo is closed for safety work.

Two free guided tours are scheduled daily , included in the museum's regular admission price. The tours, led by the Educational Service, last one hour and focus on the city and Carthusian life.

Free guided tours of the Certosa

Tours take place on August 26, 27, and 28 in two time slots, departing at 11:00 am and 16:00 pm . Places are limited to 25 people per tour , with reservations required until sold out.

Special openings: Prior's Quarters, Sacristy and New Treasury

During the three days, the historic rooms of the Prior's Quarter , which are normally open only during certain times, will remain open throughout the day . Rooms not always accessible to the public will also be open for viewing.

Among these are the Sacristy , which houses the Ecce Homo by Massimo Stanzione , and the Chapel of the New Treasure , with the Pietà by Jusepe de Ribera from 1637 and the Triumph of Judith by Luca Giordano from 1704 on the altar.

Castel Sant'Elmo reopens on August 29th

Castel Sant'Elmo is closed for safety work . It is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, August 29 , with an alternative route through the Castle Moat and the newly installed elevator.
