Chicago proclaims itself the world capital of pizza: here are the reactions of Naples and the Neapolitans!
The pizza it is without a doubt the gastronomic product most appreciated and consumed in the world. Symbol of Napoli, the city that invented it, embodies taste, history and traditions, so much so that in 2017 Neapolitan pizza has been declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.
A few days ago, however, on February 9, 2021, through a tweet published during the National Pizza Day, an event dedicated to food born in the United States, the city of Chicago has declared itself the pizza capital of the world.

"We are proud to be the pizza capital of the world“, So reads the tweet coming from the official account of the city of Chicago, a message that immediately aroused uproar and disbelief. And so a real one broke out war on social media and many Neapolitans replied to the original message.
Among the celebrities who responded to the message from the city of Chicago is there Salvatore Esposito the actor who plays Gennaro Savastano in the TV series Gomorra replied with: “After NAPLES, my USA friends” or After Naples, my American friends.
Then again Caterina Balivo who instead wrote "Chicago has declared itself the pizza capital of the world. I can't accept it".

Chicago will not be the capital of pizza as we understand it but, certainly, the capital of one all American pizza. It was born on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Deep pan pizza, also known as Chicago Style Pizza, it is a pizza with very high and buttery edges, filled with cheese, tomato sauce and sausage and then baked in a pan.
