Comicon 2025, Tanino Liberatore is the Magister of the XXV edition

Il Comicon Festival 2025 is preparing to celebrate its 25th edition with a tribute to one of the greatest protagonists of Italian and international comics: Tanino Liberatore. Known for his ability to blend the language of comics with an innovative aesthetic, Liberatore was chosen as Master of this edition, which will be held from 1st to 4th May at the Mostra d'Oltremare of Naples. Who is Tanino Liberatore, the Magister 2025?

Tanino Liberatore, pseudonym of Gaetano Liberatore, is an Italian artist originally from Quadri, in Abruzzo. Born in 1953, he studied at the art high school in Pescara and then moved to Rome, where he initially dedicated himself to the world of advertising. His career took off in 1978 thanks to his collaboration with Andrea Pazienza e Stefano Tamburini in the legendary underground magazine Cannibal.

In 1980, Liberatore conquered the international scene with the creation of Ranxerox, a punk android that becomes a symbol of rebellion and aesthetic innovation on the pages of the magazine Fridge. Thanks to his unique style, characterized by an extraordinary attention to detail and a masterful use of color, Liberatore was nicknamed by the French press “the Michelangelo of comics”.

In the 1990s, the artist embraced digital technologies, creating works such as Lucy – Hope, a graphic novel dedicated to the origins of humanity. His work ranges between comics, illustration and painting, confirming his versatility and ability to continuously innovate.

During the Comicon 2025, Liberatore will be the protagonist of a series of events and exhibitions:

Dream of an Evolution”, which can be visited until May 30, 2025 at the Irpino Museum of Avellino. The exhibition celebrates the graphic novel Lucy, exploring the theme of the origins of man through an artistic and scientific perspective.
