Excellent news comes from the Neapolitan hospitals regarding the results obtained on Coronavirus patients afterusing an anti-arthritis drug. In fact, for a few days, in the Cotugno Hospital in Naples, doctors have used Tocilizumab, generally administered in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, to evaluate their effects in severe cases of people infected with Coronavirus.

The results are very positive because the drug is going helping in severe cases of interstitial pneumonia and it is proving useful as a therapy not directed against Covid-19, but against one of the most complicated reactions of the organism that are a consequence of it.

Free distribution throughout Italy

For this reason, the pharmaceutical company Roche, the one that produces Tocilizumab, said it was available to distribute the drug for free in all hospitals in Italy.

In a letter that was sent to the Minister of Health and to all the Region Presidents, Roche says it wants to do it throughout the emergency period, provided that patients who already use it for the treatments for which the drug was created can continue to receive it without problems.

In fact, we reiterate that the drug itself it was not created to cure the disease caused by Coronavirus, but it is proving very useful for treat pneumonia that results.

Thus, a task force of doctors and experts is developing a national protocol to extend its use to all patients in critical conditions, also because it is necessary to test it on many more people to evaluate its effects more accurately.
