Cumana reopens on September 11th after the Campi Flegrei earthquake.

The Cumana railway once again connects the Phlegraean Fields with the center of Naples. The EAV line will reopen on September 11 , after being suspended following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake of July 31. With the resumption of service, the new Pozzuoli station will also begin service . The announcement was made by Mario Casillo, Vice President of the Campania Region and Councilor for Transport, and Fiorella Zabatta, Councilor for Civil Protection.

Cumana reopens on September 11th

The line connecting Torregaveta to Montesanto had been suspended after the earthquake of July 31st in Campi Flegrei. Trains had been stopped since the quake, pending technical inspections of the line and the Monte Olibano tunnel.

The new Pozzuoli station

At the same time as the line's reopening, the new Pozzuoli station will be opened to passenger service . The goal is to restore a direct connection to the capital city to the Phlegraean Fields area and to thousands of commuters, students, and workers.

Work on the Monte Olibano tunnel

The resumption of service is possible thanks to the completion of safety measures in the Monte Olibano tunnel , closed after the bradyseismic events of July 31st . The Campania Region has monitored every step of the process, promoting discussion among all relevant stakeholders.

“An important result to give back to the Campi Flegrei area and to thousands of commuters, students and workers the direct connection with Naples”, declared Mario Casillo.

"We know how much the connection difficulties have impacted the daily lives of residents in the Phlegraean Fields area. The initial results of the measures implemented by RFI at our request are encouraging and bring us closer to the goal of reopening," added Fiorella Zabatta.

The line will reopen on September 11, 2026, with the new Pozzuoli station opening immediately.

The trains had been stopped since July 31, after the 4.7 magnitude earthquake and the subsequent bradyseismic events in Campi Flegrei, for checks on the Monte Olibano tunnel.
