The meetings, debates, conferences and shows organized for the 2015 Memorial Day in Naples

La Giornata della Memoria it is celebrated on January 27 every year in commemoration of the Holocase victims. In fact, we remember the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps in order to sensitize the population to a past that must never be repeated.

THEanniversary of the 2015 takes on a special meaning because it falls 70 years after the liberation of the extermination camp of Auschwitz by the Soviets.
The Day was established in 2005 by the General Assembly of the United Nations and also in Naples, as well as throughout Campania, numerous cultural events, meetings, conferences and debates.

2015 Memorial Day Program

Cloister of the Platano at the State Archives - Jewish Community exhibition of Naples: 150 years of history

Already open from the beginning of January, an exhibition on the history of the Jewish people in the city, before its formal recognition in 1864. There will be a section on Racial Laws (promulgated by the Fascist regime in 1938), curated by Giancarlo Lacerenza, Professor of Language and Literature Biblical and medieval Hebrew in the East, and with the patronage of the Presidency of the Republic.

Hall of the Barons (Maschio Angioino) - Delivery of the Stars of David

The Stars of David are an award given to witnesses and victims of violence, but also to those who have distinguished themselves for particular merits in the fight against marginalization.
This year Tullio Foa (former student of the special class "for Jewish children", established in the "Luigi Vanvitelli" school in via Luca Giordano), Gianni Maddaloni (founder of the "Star Judo Club Napoli", a gym in Scampia that helps disadvantaged young people) and, in memory, Marcello Torre (the mayor of Pagani killed by Raffaele Cutolo's men in 1980).

Antisala dei Baroni (Maschio Angioino) - From Genocide to Marginalization

The over 500000 Roma exterminated in concentration camps will also be remembered with a series of debates held by historians, religious and politicians. The program of the day will be full and many personalities will intervene interspersed with moments of gypsy music.

2015 Memoriae Review

The Valenzi foundation, with the collaboration of the Municipality and the Italian Free Association, organized a long series of events characterized by debates and conferences on the theme of genocide. Some meetings began on January 23, but will continue until the beginning of February with shows, for example in the Bourbon Tunnel, and awards. Many guests, including teachers, musicians and artists.

In memory of Sergio De Simone - Vomero

In the Silvia Ruotolo Council Room, in via Morghen, little Sergio De Simone will be remembered, deported to Asuchwitz by the Nazis when he was only 6 years old, after having moved from Naples to Fiume with his family to escape the bombings. Sergio died as a result of cruel medical experiments to which he was subjected. To tell the story of him there will be his brother Mario and the writer Titti Marrone, author of the book “Better not to know”. In the presence of the mayor De Magistris, a commemorative plaque will be affixed in front of the De Simone house.

Bourbon Tunnel - “… and the sun went out. Shoah: the voice of memory "

A theatrical guided tour organized by the NarteA association in which the story of an Italian Jew who unfortunately did not survive Auschwitz will be told.

Common House of Diversity - Holocaust meeting

The Youth Group of the Arcigay Antinous Committee and the Circolo Arcilesbica Napoli “Le Maree” organize a meeting on the Holocaust in memory of the thousands of homosexual victims sent to concentration camps. The debate will also be attended by Antonio Amoretti, president of the Neapolitan Section of the National Association of Partisans of Italy (Anpi) and Gennaro Morgese, son of Maddalena Cerasuolo, the Neapolitan heroine who fought the Nazis during the Four Days of Naples and who managed to save the Sanità bridge from an explosion (the bridge that now bears his name).
