De Cecco recalls Pesto Rosso due to undeclared walnut allergen.

F.lli De Cecco di Filippo Fara San Martino SpA has communicated the voluntary recall of the De Cecco Red Pesto (batch 07225288, expiry date 05/2027) due to a labelling defect affecting consumers with nut allergies.

The product, sold in jars of 200 grams, was withdrawn from the market due to the presence of the allergen nights not declared on the Dutch and Portuguese (Brazil) language labels applied to jars intended for the respective foreign markets.

The recall, dated June 28, 2026, was issued by the OSA (Food Business Operator) Delizie di Riviera, which markets the product on behalf of De Cecco, with a production plant in Ceparana, in the province of La Spezia.

What consumers should do

The company recommends that all consumers with tree nut allergies do not consume the product and return it to the point of sale where it was purchased for a refund or replacement.

The lot concerned is number 07225288, with dated production October 15, 2025 and expiry date indicated as 05/2027. The establishment's identification code is the same as the one shown on the packaging.

The responsibilities of the supply chain

The voluntary recall is an act of responsibility on the part of the manufacturer, which promptly initiated the recall procedure upon discovering the discrepancy between the actual ingredients (which include nuts) and those declared on the foreign-language label. This error, if not corrected, could have triggered even severe allergic reactions in susceptible individuals.

This is not the first time that a major brand has faced such a problem. Just a few days ago, the June 26, 2026, the Ferrero recalls Nutella Muffins and Croissants due to metal fragments, an episode that reignites the debate on food safety and packaging controls for international markets.

Allergens and legal obligations

European legislation (EU Reg. 1169/2011) requires that all allergens be highlighted on the label of the product, clearly and legibly, regardless of the target language. Failure to indicate walnuts constitutes a serious violation, requiring an immediate recall.

For Italian consumers, the product was recalled as a precaution, even though the defect concerned the labels intended for the Dutch and Brazilian markets. The advice remains, however, to check the batch number before purchase.
