Eclipse of the Sun on October 25, also from Naples we will see: advice on how to observe it

The month of October 2022 it will be a special month to admire the shows that the celestial vault offers us, in fact there will be many astronomical events scheduled, including four splendid conjunctions, the full moon of the hunter, a new meteor shower, the Orionids and a pPartial solar eclipse, which will be totally visible in Italy.

Partial Eclipse of the Sun: what it is

The wonderful show will be visible throughout Italy on October 25, 2022, day in which the Moon will obscure 20% of the solar disk. The event will start in Rome at 09:26 and will end at 11:21, with a percentage of solar diameter covered by 27%. In Naples the time may vary by a few minutes because it is a different latitude, but still the time slot is the same.

How to observe an eclipse of the Sun: the tips

A solar eclipse it is an optical-astronomical phenomenon during which the Moon darkens all or part of the solar disk. The phenomenon is visible from the Earth, but to better enjoy the show it is good to take some precautions that are essential to protect our sight.

There are some delicate steps, in fact, we recommend never look with the naked eye the Sun, even when it is partially visible, because this could irreversibly damage the retina. Therefore, you will need to use glasses or specific filters, to be purchased online or more simply from an optician.

Sunscreens

To safely admire the Solar Eclipse you can use solar filters, which are excellent for blocking the sun's rays, letting only a minimum amount of light pass through. The most used, but also the cheapest ones, are the filters in mylar. These are filters composed of two more or less thin layers of plastic, separated by an aluminum sheet, which blocks harmful solar rays.

The filter, before being used, must be intact, and therefore must not have holes or scratches. In any case, even if you are using sunscreens, we advise you not to look at the sun for long periods.

The welder's goggles

As an alternative to sunscreens you can also use welder's goggles easily available in hardware stores. When buying welding goggles, take care to check theprotection index. In fact, the latter must be equal to or greater than 14. Do not use these glasses while looking through a telescope or binoculars because they could break in a few minutes due to the intense heat of the rays.

In this list, however, we report the objects not to be used absolutely during a solar eclipse, as they are not sufficiently able to attenuate the sunlight. Here's what they are:
