Pompeii excavations free on 8 May 2019: free admission to the archaeological site

Archaeological site of Pompeii

Free admission to the Pompeii excavations on Wednesday 8 May 2019. Here are all the info on timetables and admissions.

As part of the Io Vado al Museo initiative, planned by Minister Bonisoli, the Ruins of Pompeii will be free entry on Wednesday 8 May 2019. In this way, anyone can enter for free and visit the archaeological site.

We only report that, given that one is expected large turnout, on reaching the 15000 visitors, the Directorate of the Archaeological Park reserves the right to close access to the site by 12.00 and reopen about two hours later, to avoid overcrowding problems.

Furthermore, the Management recommends use the accesses of Piazza Esedra and Porta Marina e do not go to the entrance to Piazza Anfiteatro, which could be too crowded due to the pilgrims going to the Sanctuary. In fact, the free day also corresponds with the celebration of the Patron Saint of Pompei.

As a last tip, the Management invites you not to use the car to get to the excavations, but to use public transport, especially the Circumvesuviana on the Naples-Sorrento line, arriving at the Pompei Villa dei Misteri station.
