The postman is one of the major films much loved by Neapolitans and Procida. A feature film than the actor Massimo Troisi he carried on despite his illness. It is no coincidence, in fact, that we remember that the famous artist decided to postpone his intervention to the heart to participate in the filming of the film, but the day after the end of the work the actor lost his life to a fatal heart attack while sleeping.

The exhibition was set up to remember the masterful feature film “The Postman behind the scenes. The faces of Massimo Troisi". It's about a collective exhibition of contemporary art dedicated to the Neapolitan actor and created by nephew of the actor, Stephen Venusus. The project was financed by the Campania Region through Procida 2022.

«A very strong memory binds me to this island, also painful because Massimo was not well at the time of the shooting. But he, with his stubbornness and obstinacy, wanted to carry on the film. He said to my mother: "'Or I want firnì co' 'o core mio".

He didn't give his life for this film, but in my opinion he somehow thought he could change the world, because then making a film about poetry was difficult, we wondered who could go and see it. Instead it was a worldwide success, awarded with an Oscar.

The exhibition is a narration, a tale by Massimo through extracts from his memorable interviews, but above all the works of 49 artists: I also asked each of them to tell their “own” Massimo in a few lines; therefore, in addition to the work, there is also the artist's thought. "

What the exhibition includes

They are 66 works the contemporary works of art exhibited at the Workshops of the Mysteries of the monumental complex of Palazzo d'Avalos up to January 6 2023. It is an exhibition focused on the role of Massimo Troisi in the film "Il Postino" 28 years after its making.

Many are accomplishments of artists (49 in total) who have decided to pay homage to the Neapolitan interpreter by exhibiting one of their own opera dedicated to him. Besides the works, we also find scene objects such as the famous bicycle.

Among the many works of artists stands out the bronze sculpture created by Lello Esposito specially for Massimo Troisi who commissioned it personally. Some pieces are taken from Troisi's private collection, such as “Here I am – Pulcinella for Massimo Troisi, 1992" in bronze and lava stone that he proudly flaunted at the entrance to his Rome apartment.
