The University of Naples Frederick II celebrates its 802 birthday With a rich program of events that will accompany the community of Federico II and the city until June 12th. At the heart of the celebrations are the students, protagonists of a calendar that combines tradition, innovation, and culture.

University Radio Festival

The celebrations were opened by the FRU – University Radio Festival which returns to Federico II after 10 years. Organized by F2 Radio Lab in collaboration with RadUni, the event is dedicated to the theme "University radio: the future with a long tradition." Until June 6, students, communications professionals, and representatives of Italian university broadcasters will engage in workshops, panels, and challenges. The kick-off will be enriched by a surprise video message from Fiorello and Biggio who wanted to send their best wishes to F2 RadioLab, which is turning 20.

Federiciano Student Day

June 5th is celebrated “Frederick Student Day” The program focuses on the 130 students of the "Federico Athlete" program, who combine study with competitive sports. Among them, the Paralympic swimming champion stands out. Angela Procida and the sailor Ginevra Caracciolo of Brienza, ILCA6 under-21 world champion.

Distinguished Graduates 2026

The award ceremony will take place on June 5th at 16pm in the Aula Magna Storica. Distinguished Graduates 2026Seven internationally renowned personalities will be honoured: physics Elena Aprile (Columbia University), the general Paul Borrelli, Lorenzo Cerulli (Deloitte), Bruno Frattasi (former director of the National Cybersecurity Agency), the ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, Carmine Incoronato Petrone (Petrone Group) and Silvio Savarese (Stanford University and Salesforce).

Concert and shows

The ceremony will continue with “Naples for the anniversary of the Italian Constitution“, a reading by the author and director Massimo Andrei, and will conclude with the concert of the New Scarlatti OrchestraAt 21.30pm, in the Courtyard of the Statues, Dario Sansone will perform “Restiamo in piedi” with Pierluigi D'Amore and Michele Signore.

A weekend dedicated to culture

Saturday, June 6th, the last day of the University Radio Festival in San Marcellino with final challenges and awards. Sunday, June 7th, at the Botanical Garden of Naples, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, the eighth edition of "Sound Garden. A Sound for Every Plant" with the Scarlatti Junior Orchestra.

A rich program celebrating the oldest secular university in the world, founded on June 5, 1224, by Emperor Frederick II, which continues to be a point of reference for culture and research.
