Brusciano Lily Festival 2026: The 151st Edition and the August 30 Ballad

From August 26 to September 1, 2026, Brusciano, in the province of Naples, will celebrate the 151st edition of the Festa dei Gigli , one of the most cherished popular traditions in the Nola area. The highlight will be Sunday, August 30, with the traditional Ballad of the Gigli , when seven obelisks will parade through the streets of the town center.

The origins: the miracle of 1875

The feast day originates from a specific event: on June 13, 1875 , according to tradition, Saint Anthony of Padua performed a miracle in Brusciano, healing the gravely ill son of the commoner , Zia Cecca De Falco . The miracle occurred on Via Cortaucci, now Via Cavalcanti, where votive images still commemorate the event.

The Ballad of the Lilies of August 30th

The highlight of the 2026 edition is the Ballad of the Lilies on Sunday, August 30. Seven obelisks, each entrusted to a different fishing boat, will parade in the Antoniana Procession :

• Friendship Lily, brought by the Paranza Insuperabile Barrese
• Lily Fast Step, from the Paranza Nolana Primavera
• Lily of the People, from the Casavatorese Paranza La San Giovanni
• Lily of Youth, from the Paranza Bruscianese Youth
• St. Anthony's Lily, from the Paranza Orgoglio Bruscianese
• Ortolan Lily, from the Paranza dei Volontari
• Lily of the Cross, from the Paranza Bruscianese Uragano

Collections, music and festive evenings

During the festival, the center of Brusciano comes alive with collections, music, and festive evenings . The countdown officially began on the night between July 31st and August 1st with the traditional " Buscianese New Year ," the ritual that opens August Antoniano in Brusciano. The official poster for the 2026 edition is designed by Rocco Micalessi , with Saint Anthony depicted from behind with the Child Jesus.

The Gigli Festival also in New York

The tradition has transcended national borders: since 1908 , Italian-Americans of Brusciano origin have been holding their own " Giglio Dance " in New York City's Italian East Harlem on Pleasant Avenue. The Italian-American community has renewed the event in 2026, from August 6th to 9th.
