Feast and Miracle of San Gennaro in Naples, info, dates and times

Like every year, Naples prepares to celebrate one of the most important religious events: the feast of San Gennaro, patron saint of the city and of Campania. From 18 at the 26 September 2024 i Solemn Rites will accompany us on a journey of faith and tradition. The wait is concentrated above all on the prodigious miracle of the liquefaction of the Blood, a symbol of protection for the city. Here is the information, dates and times!

The dates and times of the festivities and the miracle

Wednesday 18 September:

• Ore 17.15: Liturgy of the Word and start of the procession from the Church of San Giorgio in Forcella.
• Ore 18.30: Vigil Rite and celebration of First Vespers in the Cathedral.

Thursday September 19st (Solemnity of San Gennaro):

• Ore 7.30: Opening of the Cathedral.
• Ore 8.00: First Mass and reading of the Passion of San Gennaro.
• Ore 9.45: Opening the safe with the Blood vials.
• Ore 10.00: Solemn Eucharistic Celebration and announcement of the miracle (if it occurs).

From the 19 to the 26 September (Octave of Thanksgiving):

• Ore 9.00: Holy Mass in the Treasury Chapel.

The solemn rites of September 18

The solemn Eucharistic celebration and the liquefaction of the blood

At 10.00, will begin Solemn Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by the Archbishop of Naples. During the celebration, the faithful will await with great hope the prodigious miracle of the liquefaction of the Blood of San Gennaro, which represents a sign of good luck for the city. If the miracle happens, the announcement will be given immediately to those present.

At the end of the Mass, the Archbishop will bring the ampoules with blood outside the Cathedral, displaying them to the faithful and to the city of Naples.

The Octave of Thanksgiving from September 19 to 26
