Hocus Focus Festival in Altavilla Silentina: food and tradition

From January 17th to 19th, Altavilla Silentina will come alive with a new edition of the festival Focus Focus, an event that celebrates fire and its traditions in honor of Saint Anthony the Abbot. Organized by Pro Loco of Altavilla Silentina 2023 APS and by the association “U Fuoc r Sant'Antuono”, in collaboration with local organizations, the festival combines food, shows and music, creating an unmissable event for culture and folklore enthusiasts.

Who organizes the festival?

La Pro Loco of Altavilla Silentina, together with the association “U Fuoc r Sant'Antuono”, is the main driving force of the festival. Every year, the organizers are committed to enhancing the roots of the territory, collaborating with local associations to create an event that marries tradition and modernity. This year's theme, "Vertigo", addresses the dialogue between past and future, a symbolic journey that invites reflection on change, without forgetting the importance of one's origins.

What to eat at the Hocus Focus festival

Il gastronomic journey is a central element of the festival. Visitors will be able to taste typical dishes of the Campania tradition, prepared with local ingredients and recipes handed down from generation to generation. Among the delicacies not to be missed:

• Mallone sciatica: a mix of wild herbs and potatoes.
• Sandwich with sausage or porchetta: grilled over the bonfire for an authentic flavour.
• Meatballs with meat sauce: served with homemade bread.
• Corn Pizza: a symbol of rural tradition.
• Homemade sweets, such as struffoli and castagnole.
• Local wines: they perfectly accompany every dish, offering a journey through the flavours of the area.

In addition to gastronomy, the festival offers a rich program of cultural and musical events:

• 17st JanuaryThe day opens with the mass in honor of Saint Anthony the Abbot and the lighting of the traditional community bonfires, a moment of great involvement for the entire population.
• 18st January: Shows of buskers liven up Piazza Umberto I, followed by live concerts of Amalfitan e Coke Puma. Amalfitano combines irony with rock and roll, while Coca Puma offers a unique sound that mixes electronics, soul and post-rock atmospheres.
• 19st January: Urban trekking in the historic center with “Il cammino di Sant'Antuono”, a journey to discover the ancient roots of the territory and its beauties.
