A short walk from the Caves of Pertosa will be held from 1 to 4 May 2014 the Festival of Artichoke White Auletta (SA), dedicated to this delicious vegetable season
In the small village of Auletta, in the province of Salerno and a stone's throw from the suggestive Pertosa Caves, a very popular appointment is held every year with gastronomy and peasant tradition, typical of this area. This is the White Artichoke Festival, which this year reaches its fifth edition and which offers the opportunity to taste this particular specialty grown and produced in the fields of Auletta, but also of Pertosa, Caggiano and Salvitelle.
Il White artichoke owes its name to its main characteristics, which make it more "delicate" than other varieties: its light green color that tends to white, its sweet taste and its absence of thorns, its large inflorescences and its tenderness that allow you to eat it even raw, seasoned only with the extra virgin olive oil of the area. This artichoke is grown in mid-April until mid-May, when even the smallest specimens are collected and preserved in oil.
La White Artichoke Festival of Auletta will be held from 1 to 4 May 2014, with inauguration on May 1st at 10 am with the opening of the Market Exhibition and its tasting stands where for four days you can taste the typical products of the area but above all the White artichoke in all its variants and cooked according to old peasant recipes. For gourmands the opportunity to taste even the most sought after specialties: artichokes in oil and artichoke pate.
The days dedicated to the festival will also be enlivened by folk music shows, children's entertainment, photographic contest, the Artichoke Lottery and guided tours in the Old Center and in the surrounding landscape areas by Digital Invasions.
