Naples, Fnac reopens but still looks the same

Fnac reopens Naples Vomero

Fnac reopens at Vomero, inside it is a lot of space for technology and some appliances, but still books, CDs and DVDs. The transition to Trony is awaited

Naples, 15 July 2013 9 hours: 30, as announced the Fnac of Naples, in via Luca Giordano, reopen the gate closed for more than a month to bring in, among the applause, fifty people already lined up outside the point of sale.

Throughout the morning a bustle of people continued to enter and leave the shop, some to browse, some to take the opportunity to make the first purchases in what was to be the "New" Fnac, of which we have done nothing but talk for months.

There were so many rumors about the possibility that the sales point of the French Vomero store, as well as in other Italian cities, was completely transformed. After total sale of all products he would have to settle down Trony with its appliances, then the hypothesis of equipping the two-storey space in via Luca Giordano with many stands belonging to various different businesses was considered, and it was also said that Mondadori was interested in the Neapolitan shop.

Instead, crossing the threshold of Fnac, one can easily notice that nothing has changed. Everything has remained where and how we left it. Upstairs we find the "technological" area with smartphones and mobile phones in plain sight, the crowded Apple point, televisions of all sizes and brands, with a greater assortment of stationery and stationery, gift ideas and toys. And a novelty: a little, for now, space dedicated to home appliances such as microwaves, vacuum cleaners, food processors, razors and depilatories, coffee machines and electronic scales.

The bar area also remained unchanged, with the tables occupying the space once reserved for the Fnac forum dedicated to meetings with authors, presentations of CDs and live bands and singers. The book sector is more restricted: only one stand has remained with the latest releases.

On the lower level everything has remained intact. Books of all kinds, CDs, DVDs, are all in their places, divided into categories just like months ago. The name of the brand "Fnac" stands out almost everywhere, even on the uniforms of the sales staff who are always the same.

Trn Fnac

But it will not last for long because soon the French megastore Fnac brand will be replaced by Trony, which has already supplied the store with its products. It is therefore only a continuity strategy, as has also happened with the Genoa store.

Yves Di Benedetto, CEO of Dps Group which manages the Trony brand, told La Repubblica:

<<If Fnac was 40 per cent based on a cultural offer, with records and events, and 60 per cent on electronics, we will be 75 per cent focused on electronics: we will keep the possibility of buying tickets for the concerts, but there will be fewer records and more technology>>.

The publishing and audiovisual products will not, therefore, be completely eliminated, only reduced compared to the old management of Fnac.

As regards the employees of the Neapolitan store Rino Strazzullo, general secretary of Uiltucs Campania said that the intention of the unions is "employ the greatest number of workers and to put all the others in training so as to relocate them within the Trony stores, making sure that the passage must involve less inconvenience for everyone in an equitable manner>>.

The Fnac affair is finally shedding light, but we still have to wait for the evolution of the complete "passage", at this point, of management in the hands of Trony ...
