The Monastery of Santa Chiara with the world-famous Cloister

Known all over the world, also thanks to the famous Neapolitan classic song "Munasterio 'and Santa Chiara“, Written by Michele Galdieri and Alberto Barberis, brought to success by Giacomo Rondinella and became the first and most famous post-war song.

The Monastery is located in historic center of Naples, a stone's throw from Piazza del Gesù and in full Spaccanapoli, and it was built starting in 1310 thanks to King Robert of Anjou. It was a sort of Franciscan citadel with two convents, but about four centuries later, in 1742, it was profoundly modified giving it an appearance barocco, far from the original Gothic style.

Because of bombings of 1943, it was almost totally destroyed and, subsequently, rebuilt taking up the early Gothic style, which we can still admire today.

In the 50s it was reopened to the public and still today you can visit the wonderful Majolica Cloister which was the work ofDAVaccaro architect who worked there between 1739 and 1742. It is made up two intersecting avenues dividing the area into four parts, They are lined with characteristic majolica pillars is natural and plant themes. There are also sessions that take up the same theme in addition to scenes of everyday life of the '700. On the walls there are seventeenth-century frescoes with saints, scenes from the Old Testament and various allegories.

The whole is very colorful and suggestive and there is one perfect fusion between the surrounding nature and the one depicted on majolica.
