Olly Eurovision, why is he giving up? Here's the reason

Il winner of Sanremo 2025, Olly, has officially given up on representing Italy at theEuro Vision Song Contest. The decision, announced through his social channels, has shocked fans and raised many questions. Why should a young artist, who has just conquered the most important stage of Italian music, give up such a prestigious international showcase?
Olly explained that his choice is not linked to health problems or disagreements with the organization, but to a personal need to to mature artistically. “I really believe that I have to connect with everything that is happening to me before I look any further,” the singer said. His goal is to focus on live apprenticeship, without rushing and maintaining a direct relationship with its audience.
What did Olly say about his decision?
In his message, Olly wanted to make it clear that his choice was not taken lightly. “Eurovision is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” he admitted, “but I have to be myself, always.” The artist also wanted to thank those who supported him, reiterating that his main focus remains the concerts already scheduled for the tour.
After the victory at Sanremo 2025 with “Balorda nostalgia”, Olly found himself having to manage a wave of popularity that could overwhelm any young artist. Choosing not to participate in theEurovision it is therefore a way to stay true to yourself, without getting carried away by the frenzy of success.
I've been asking myself and asking everyone's opinions for days, and the answer is always the same: "in the end you have to do what you feel like doing", because everyone knows how much it means to me to be myself, always.
Now, I don't think you would be sad if I moved concerts for Eurovision, but I firmly believe that I need to connect with everything that is happening to me, before looking even further ahead, before continuing with my beloved live apprenticeship that I always talk about with infinite pride.I have therefore decided to give up the opportunity to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the awareness that it is one of those things that perhaps happens to you only once in a lifetime.
I thank those who voted for me and gave me the opportunity to have this privilege: I hope to see you soon at one of my concerts to reciprocate all the love I'm receiving these days. For me this decision is my way of listening to myself and maybe also my twisted way of saying thank you.
Some may say that I am giving up on a dream, but I believe I have simply chosen to live it at my own pace.I wish a huge good luck to whoever takes my place: music in Italy is full of formidable artists and this year's cast is the most sincere proof of that.
Always believe!
Something is changing and it is there for all to see.I hug you and see you on tour,
Federico
Did Olly say no for financial reasons?
Behind Olly's possible renunciation of theEuro Vision Song Contest 2025 there could be a business choice. The young singer, surprise winner of Sanremo 2025, already has a busy schedule: his Spring Tour, with twelve dates already sold out, will take place right in the weeks of the European event. Giving up the stage in Basel perhaps means losing an international opportunity, but it guarantees to consolidate the relationship with an audience that has already shown him great support. Without having foreseen the victory, Olly had not even considered Eurovision, leaving room for the hypothesis of a replacement with Lucio Corsi, runner up.
Who will represent Italy at Eurovision 2025?
With Olly's resignation, the Rai had to quickly choose a new representative for Italy at theEuro Vision Song Contest, to be held at Basel, Switzerland, in May 2025The chosen one is Lucio Corsi, the Tuscan singer-songwriter who has conquered the public and critics with his refined music and the song “I wanted to be tough”.
Lucio Corsi welcomed the news with enthusiasm, writing on social media: “See you at Eurovision! I have always chased guitars escaping from their cases, pianos escaping from their homes, harmonicas blown by the wind. I will chase the instruments this time too”.
His unique style and his great interpretative ability could prove to be a winning weapon for Italy, which will try to leave its mark on the European stage after the recent performances of artists such as Mahmood, Blanco and Marco Mengoni.

Some have also pointed out how, in recent years, the Management of Italian participations in Eurovision has been the subject of controversy, with artists facing very high pressure and expectations. “Perhaps Olly preferred to avoid the stress and focus on his career without the burden of international competition,” one music critic speculated.
Will Olly ever return to Eurovision?
