Obligation of masks, government turnaround: necessary on public transport

Woman wearing mask

The government has decided, on public transport the use of masks remains mandatory. We are also moving towards an extension of the mandatory use of masks also in hospitals and RSAs, while the use of masks on airplanes remains under evaluation.

What happens in Italy: hospitals, Rsa and schools

Minister Speranza he continues to embrace the conduct of prudence by renewing some obligations for the use of the masks in some places indoors while in others the obligation falls entirely. In structures such as indoor cinemas, theaters and sporting events are no longer required to wear the mask.

Regarding the use of protective devices they will remain mandatory on public transport at least until September 30th. The decision is not yet official but it is what has been learned from the news agencies. Also from news learned and still unofficial it would seem that the obligation to use also remains in the hospitals and in residences for the elderlyon the other hand, a relaxation of safety measures on airplanes is being assessed, especially for international flights.

For schools, however, the obligation could be removed above all for carrying out the final State exams of the first and second cycle of Education and for the final exams of the courses of the higher technical institutes.

Although many safety measures have been removed, those provided for trains, metro and buses remain unchanged. It is hypothesized that the decision is also due to the increase in infections attributed to the sub-variants Ba.3 and Ba.5 of Omicrom.

What happens in the rest of the world?

Let's see what the situation is in the rest of Europe:

  • in Germany as in Italy the obligation on public transport remains in force;
  • in Greece the obligation is foreseen only on local means of transport;
  • in Spain it is sufficient to use the surgical mask on the means of transport;
  • in all other states instead, the obligation to wear a mask has also lapsed on public transport as demonstrated by Austria, France, Denmark, Belgium, Holland and many others.

Italy therefore remains one of the nations that applies the strictest rules regarding the use of the mask.
