The guided tour will be an opportunity to discover the extreme point of the Flegrea peninsula and to explore a fascinating and mysterious place, from which you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Pozzuoli and the islands of Procida and Ischia.
The lighthouse of Capo Miseno is located on a terrace at 65 meters above sea level and can be reached along a mountain road that starts from the coast and runs through houses, farms and ruins from the Roman era.
The history of the Capo Miseno lighthouse
Not everyone knows the events that have characterized the lighthouse of Capo Miseno, a fundamental structure in our territory, because allows the nocturnal illumination of the Gulf of Pozzuoli and the Procida canal, constantly driving the boats and ferries that cross this stretch of sea.
The lighthouse of Capo Miseno was built in the early nineteenth century oe passed to the Superintendency of the Royal Navy in the 1910, with a decree of King Vittorio Emanuele III. Later it passed under the direction of the Inspectorate of Lighthouses and maritime signaling, based in Naples. Unfortunately in the 1943 the lighthouse was completely destroyed by the German bombings of the Second World War, and was rebuilt in the 1948. The lighthouse that we can admire today is not the original one but has a different and more modern structure. The charm of this enchanting place has remained unchanged and preserves the memory of its distant origins.
