The Metropolitan Cinema in Naples remains a cinema: the relaunch plan

Il Metropolitan Cinema of Naples will continue to be a cinema, respecting its cultural bond and the link with the city. This is the decision that emerged during the meeting held in Palazzo San Giacomo, convened by the mayor Gaetano Manfredi and attended by representatives of the State Property Agency, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Naples, the Intrum company, Banca Intesa Sanpaolo and architect Gianluigi Barbato, representing Pluricom, the company awarded the property.
A future still in cinema
The aim of the meeting was to ensure the valorisation of the former multiplex, protecting its cultural bond. The mayor reiterated the importance of maintaining the Metropolitan's intended use as cinema, preserving its role as a cultural attraction in the urban context of Naples.
The architect Gianluigi Barbato he stressed that since the beginning of 2023, when he expressed interest in purchasing the property, he has always had the intention of respecting the historical function of the cinema, recognizing its cultural and symbolic value for Naples.
The goal is to reopen the theaters to the public
The meeting revealed a common desire to reopen as soon as possible most of the movie theaters in the facility.
To confirm this direction, Pluricom has made public a letter sent by the film producer Andrea Occhipinti, sole director of Lucky red, addressed to the mayor Manfredi. In the letter, Occhipinti expressed the will to manage the Metropolitan, committing to transform it into a point of reference for cinema in Naples.
“There is a lot of work to do, we want the Metropolitan to become the most beautiful cinema in the city and a leading cultural center. We need the support of the institutions and the community”, Occhipinti declared.
A shared commitment to the city
Mayor Manfredi expressed full satisfaction for the outcome of the meeting, confirming the commitment of the municipal administration to support the reopening of the Metropolitan.
"Our priority is to ensure that the Metropolitan continues to be a cultural hub for Naples. We have taken concrete steps in this direction and will continue to work to protect both the structure and the cinema workers", declared the mayor.
The meeting therefore marked an important step for the future of the Metropolitan, with the aim of preserving its historical and cultural role in the urban fabric of Naples.
