Fire in Chiaia, 53 year old man dies
On the night between 18 and 19 August, a tragic fire devastated an apartment on the mezzanine floor of the Riviera of Chiaia, in Naples, resulting in the death of a 53-year-old man.
The flames developed suddenly and, despite the rapid intervention of the firefighters and the police, the tragedy was not avoided. Investigations to determine the causes of the fire are still ongoing, with investigators examining all possible hypotheses.
Where the fire occurred
The fire broke out during the night between 18 and 19 August in an apartment on the mezzanine floor of the Riviera of Chiaia, precisely at number 202, near the intersection with via Bausan and a few meters from the entrance of Villa Pignatelli.
The particularly violent flames made extinguishing operations complex, with the real risk that the fire would spread to adjacent buildings.
The dynamics of the accident
After putting out the fire, the police carried out a thorough inspection of the house. During the check, in the bathroom of the apartment was found the body of a 53 year old man, of origins Tunisian. According to an initial reconstruction by investigators, the man died of asphyxiation, probably in an attempt to escape the flames.
Unfortunately, his efforts to save himself were in vain and he was unable to leave the house before losing consciousness due to the smoke.
