What happened to the Monte Faito cable car
The tragedy occurred on the morning of April 17, 2025, when one of the cabins of the Monte Faito cable car suddenly collapsed into the void. According to initial reconstructions, the collapse would have occurred due to a sudden failure in the traction system, which would have caused the detachment of the load-bearing cable. The cabin, during the ascent, it crashed to the ground from a considerable height, leaving no escape for some of the passengers on board. The entire plant was immediately blocked to allow emergency operations and technical surveys.
Who are the victims and the missing person?

Identification is still ongoing, but according to initial information These would be tourists visiting at Monte Faito. The missing person may have been thrown further away from the point of impact, making searches in the rugged area where the accident occurred particularly complex. Authorities are also using drones and dog units to try to locate the body.
Rescue intervention and recovery operations
Rescue operations were activated immediately after the collapse, with the arrival on site of firefighters, 118, civil protection and law enforcement.
The recovery operations proved particularly difficult due to the impervious area where the cabin fell. Rescuers worked with ropes, harnesses and special equipment to reach the site of the accident and recover the visitors from the cabin that, fortunately, had not fallen.
