The tragedy occurred on the morning of April 17, 2025, when one of the cabins of the Monte Faito cable car suddenly collapsed into the void. According to initial reconstructions, the collapse would have occurred due to a sudden failure in the traction system, which would have caused the detachment of the load-bearing cable. The cabin, during the ascent, it crashed to the ground from a considerable height, leaving no escape for some of the passengers on board. The entire plant was immediately blocked to allow emergency operations and technical surveys.

In the tragic accident four people died, while a fourth is still missing. The bodies of the victims were recovered by rescuers in the immediate vicinity of the destroyed cabin. Rescue intervention and recovery operations
