Il 6 September 2020 theIrpinia Express, the historical-tourist train that leads us in the Irpine valleys among the most important vineyards of the area where the fine wines of Campania are produced.
The Irpinia Express is a project favored by the Region and the FS Foundation and organized by the InLocoMotivi APS Association and which moves on the historic Avellino-Rocchetta section.
It is a beautiful experiential journey in the greenery, nature and valleys of Irpinia in the areas where 3 of the 4 Campania DOCG wines are produced: Taurasi (Montemarano), Greco di Tufo (Altavilla Irpina) and Fiano di Avellino (Lapio).
The Irpinia Express: among imposing vineyards
As mentioned, we start on September 6 between , culture, seeds , Story e fine wines that you can taste.
During the trip we will be told the history of the territory where the grapes that give life to these excellent wines grow, between majestic vineyards grown in an ancient territory. All this, in perfect balance with the historic railway that crosses the territories and which, in turn, characterizes them.
The travel program
8.30: Departure from Benevento
9.26: Arrival in Altavilla: the tasting tour starts from Altavilla Irpina station at 10.30.
For those who want to reach Altavilla by car and continue the tour by train, free parking is available near the Altavilla station
10.30: start of tour in the sulfur mines. At the station Guided aperitif with Greco di Tufo and gastronomic accompaniment
11.55: Departure from Altavilla station. Stop at Avellino Station
13.40: Arrival at Lapio station, transfer to the Borgo
13.45 / 13.50: Reception at Palazzo Filangieri in Avellino. Brunch at the Palazzo with Fiano di Avellino
15.30 Return to the station and departure. Arrival in Montemarano
16.35: Welcome toast with Rosato Spumante. Walk of 10 minutes and arrival at Spazio Ponteromito. Welcome with local folklore show with Montemaranese tarantella and institutional greetings (about 20 minutes)
16.50: Tasting begins with a tasting stand with wine and local products. You can collect the glass at the beginning of the itinerary and then leave it at the end of the tasting before leaving Montemarano to go to the station
17.50: Return to the station
18.00: Departure
