The Chiaia Funicular finally reopens for service

After more than four years of closure, the Chiaia Funicular has finally resumed service, but without official events or celebrations. We were finally able to get back to using it without any particular announcements from the institutions, in a long-awaited reopening. The return of the plant to operation represents an important step for urban mobility, especially for those who travel between the hilly areas and the center of Naples every day.
No celebration for the reopening
Despite the importance of the event, the reopening of the Chiaia Funicular took place in a discreet manner, without official inaugurations or press conferences. The first passengers found the gates open and the service regularly active, but without the presence of institutional representatives.
A choice probably linked to the numerous delays accumulated over the years pending restoration, which have sparked controversy among citizens and commuter associations
How long did the work last?
Maintenance work on the Chiaia Funicular they were supposed to last 18 months, but they have continued for over four years due to bureaucratic delays and technical difficulties. The closure of the plant, which occurred in 2019, caused significant inconvenience to citizens, who had to rely on alternative means.
The overall cost of the intervention it was around 20 million euros, a necessary expense to ensure compliance with safety regulations and the modernization of the service.
