Landslide in Ischia, Casamicciola: 7 dead including a newborn

Serious emergency in Ischia, on the morning of November 26, due to heavy rains a landslide occurred at about 5 in the morning which literally brought the municipality of to its knees Casamicciola north of Ischia.

Unfortunately as time goes by the incoming news gets worse, we are at 7 deaths including two children and a newborn.

The state of emergency has been activated, 2 million are urgently arriving according to the provisions of the council of ministers

Update at 6:30 on November 27th

Unfortunately it has been made official that the landslide caused a first confirmed victim: a woman. At the moment the balance is 11 missing but the rescuers do not stop: they are continuing to dig to look for the other missing. Found the family with the newborn, initially reported missing.

Update 11:30 November 26: There are 13 missing, including a family

As many as 13 missing declared at 11:30 on the 26th, among them a whole family composed of a wife, husband and a small baby. A 25-year-old girl also disappeared.

It is feared that the number could grow as the landslide was of considerable intensity


What happened, how did the landslide happen

An entire ridge of the mountain came down, huge boulders fell and the flow overwhelmed e uprooted houses and drive until you reach the sea.

Ten buildings were hit and collapsed, with about 30 families completely isolated.

Fortunately, a young man was recovered, pulled alive from the rubble of one of the houses affected by the landslide. Gianluca Monti, who lives there with his partner and son, unfortunately still missing at the moment.

A 60-year-old is in red code in the emergency room at the Rizzoli of Ischia, overwhelmed by the landslide while he was in the square.

Relief efforts are also moving by sea to reach the disaster site.

More rain, the situation can get even worse
