Voices from the Archive: Free theater and memory workshops in Naples

The "Voices of the Archives" series , a project that unites memory, theater, and current events within the halls of the State Archives of Naples , begins on Monday, September 14. The initiative is promoted and co-financed by the Municipality of Naples and organized by the Nuovo Teatro Sanità ETS in collaboration with the State Archives.

Three free workshops from September 14th to 16th

The first phase of the project includes three workshops scheduled for September 14, 15 and 16 , from 10:00 to 13:00 , open to the community and to the young students of Drammalab, the drama workshop of the Nuovo Teatro Sanità recognized by the MIC as a drama training institution.

The participants will be guided by the writer Antonella Ossorio , the playwright Mario Gelardi and the archivist Giuseppina Medugno , on a journey of research and writing that combines personal and collective experience.

The workshops touch on three strands: historical narrative , the archivist's work , and dramaturgy . Participants will have access to spaces, documents, and texts, and will be able to interact with archivists, officials, and scholars who work at the institute.

Eight monologues and two immersive shows

At the end of the course, the young playwrights will create eight monologues and two epilogues , inspired by historical moments of particular significance for the Archive, which will become two environmental theatre shows.

In this theatrical form, the performance space becomes part of the show: the audience will travel through ancient spaces guided by words and sounds, experiencing an immersive experience between memory and current events.

The project aims to be a bridge between past and future: through the theatre, the State Archives of Naples become a living place again, where history continues to speak and young people give it back a voice and body.
