Posters for a free cinema: the exhibition on Third Cinema in Naples

From March 18th to May 7th, Naples will host a one-of-a-kind event: “Manifestos for a Free Cinema – The Wretched of the Earth”. An initiative promoted by City of Naples, as part of the project Cohousing Cinema Naples, which brings to the city for the first time a selection of masterpieces of the Third Cinema in restored versionThe event will be held at the Modern Multicinemain Oil Tank Street 49/59.

An initiative to rediscover independent cinema

The review, edited by Armando Andria and Gina Annunziata, born in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna , Film School of the Academy of Fine Arts of NaplesThe aim is to offer the public an opportunity to reflection on the relationship between aesthetics and politics, through films from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Each screening will be accompanied by critics, teachers and experts, who will guide spectators on a journey to discover a cinema that, in the midst of the liberation movements, was able to combine stylistic revolution and political commitment.

The cultural value of the exhibition

The selection of films proposes a dialogue with the thought of Frantz Fanon, highlighting how cinema can become a means of emancipation. The event also offers a look at the present, questioning the legacy of the Third Cinema and its influence on the contemporary audiovisual landscape.

Special meetings and insights

In addition to the screenings, the program includes two important events:

  • A meeting with Cecilia Cenciarelli, co-director of the festival The Retro Cinema and representative of the World Cinema Project of the Cineteca Foundation of Bologna.
  • A Masterclass by Ala Eddine Slim, director known for his innovative approach to independent cinema.
