May of Monuments in Naples: the events that you cannot miss with Muraria

Muraria for the May of Monuments

This year the May of the Monuments, the review organized by the Municipality of Naples together with many local associations to allow citizens and tourists to visit more or less known places in the city.

In fact, in addition to visits to locations, monuments and museums among the most famous, you can also visit places that they are generally closed to the public, attend concerts, theater show and also at literary meetings.

In this edition the protagonists will be the walls and the walls with the center of the street art festival "Muraria" promoted by the Municipality of Naples with funding from the Metropolitan City and collaboration
of the French Institute of Naples Grenoble and of the Goethe-Institut of Naples. Maggio dei Monumenti will take place 13 from May to June 12 2022 and each Municipality will be involved.

Characteristic is the great work of street art in Piazza Municipio which refers to the event.

Muraria, the street art festival with events and underground visits

The event will be characterized by Masonry, a real festival with special openings, guided tours, works of public art, underground cinema projections, street theater and thematic walks.

In fact, for the city of Naples the mura they have always been of fundamental importance, they create an osmosis between inside and outside, between themselves and their own and are both walls and boundary walls, caves, monuments, are painted, are the protagonists of shows. In short, they will be at the center of the cultural life of the Maggio dei Monumenti.

They will tell dreams, stories, mysteries and they will not be divisive, but they will unite.

The program of the Maggio dei Monumenti

The Muraria festival brings to life all the scheduled events. It is a street art festival where "following the course of the oblique walls that connect the different souls of the city, between ancient paths, stairs and urban steps, the beauty of Naples will be revealed only to those who, walking, will know how to read in stone".

These are the words that open the vast program of the event that is divided into six sections. Each section is characterized by many events and we offer you a selection of best not to be missed.

Here are what they are, remembering that the complete program is on the website of the Municipality of Naples.

Talking to the walls, street theater

Painting the walls, street art works

Of course the walls can also become works of art thanks to the murals and graffiti that street artists paint frequently. In our city we have many examples of this type thanks to Jorit, Zevs e Trisha. They too will be protagonists of the Maggio dei Monumenti with performances that will transform anonymous walls and peripheral spaces into works of art.

Here's what they will do:

  • Zevs, a French artist famous for the technique of “liquidation” of famous brands, will create an original installation on a facade of the “Marie Curie” institute in via Argine. Using a specially created gold paneling technique, he will change the look of the wall with a lively chromatism;
  • Jorit, very tied to Naples and its musical tradition, together with Trisha, will pay tribute to Fabrizio De Andrè painting a mural in Scampia on the wall surface of via Labriola. It will be an ideal link with the auditorium dedicated to Faber which is located nearby.

Here's where to see them:
