They arrive news as for the metro 2 line of Naples, which we recall is not managed by ANM, but by Rfi (Italian Railway Network). In fact, thanks to the funds of the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) the mega project-Naples is preferably used for redevelopment of stations.

There will be 100 million in funding available for change the look and functionality of metro line 2, funds that were not initially even foreseen because it was thought to intervene only on the railway lines and not on the actual stations.

Instead, this major RFI project-symbol will kick off as the the ideas proposed were very convincing. It was presented to the Mann during a convention and concerns the rewriting of 6 metro line 2 stations.

Which stations are involved

Paolo Giulierini, the director of the Man, wanted host this workshop because very enthusiastic about the project and also because one a large part of the plan concerns interventions in the Cavour station, very close to the Museum. From his words we can perceive the great enthusiasm:

It is part of the idea of transforming places that does not concern only the museum but the entire area that revolves around it. It is one of those projects capable of change the face of the city, crucial to generate a rebirth.

The architects and engineers present spoke about the redevelopment that will concern the following stations:

  • San Giovanni / Barra;
  • Piazza Cavour;
  • Montesanto;
  • Amedeo Square;
  • Mergellina;
  • Leopardi Square.

For each there are ad hoc studies relating to the influx of travelers and their typology, the needs of the areas of the surrounding context, such as improvements will be made both aesthetically and relatively to theenvironmental impact. Furthermore, the need was taken into consideration to make it easier to reach the platforms of some stations which, as we know, are difficult to reach. accessible to those who have difficulties. Just think of the Leopardi station where there are only stairs, even high ones.

The project for the Cavour station in synergy with the Mann

As mentioned, the works in the Cavour station will be the most important and almost certainly the first to start. Are expected two buildings and two entrances, one of which is for Health and glass will be used mainly.

With the intervention of talented architects and landscape architects, we will try to do increase the green around the station and create too three new small squares. The landscape architect Professor Andreas Kipar of Studio Land in Milan and the Vulcanica studio with the architect Aldo di Chio, proposed a large linear park in which the Archaeological Museum it will be a great reference point.

In addition to the three squares, there will be one central promenade of 5 meters and the trees will be maintained. One of the squares will be built in tiers.

in addition, there will be two buildings at the station: one will be at street level and will have an inclined walkway in front of Porta San Gennaro, with the greek cross walkways to recall the ancient history of Naples.

The other ideas for metro line 2 stations

Some ideas present in the project emerged from the convention.

Montesanto station

The impact of the new cubic spaces will be eliminated over the time they have been added to the structure. A will be created new building and there will be one new square with large green spaces.

We will focus on the livability of the spaces. The restyling will be total with a atrium and an underground walkway, there will also be one new flooring and they will be planted trees. The openings will be created to accommodate more light.

There will be two entrances and two lifts, one at Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the other at Parco Margherita, near the current funicular.

Mergellina station

We will focus on connecting the tracks to the outside without affecting the historical structure which is beautiful and impressive, a heritage of the city. It was also assumed that the interior spaces could be reused in a different way, but of course the RFI will always have to first dialogue with the municipal administration.

The project involves two new side entrances, escalators e lifts

Leopardi Station

There will be a complete makeover because only one will be created small entrance with new building a lantern shape. Sara illuminated in the dark and there will be a second exit on the opposite side to the one present today and they will not necessarily be missing lifts e accessibility for the disabled.

San Giovanni Barra station
